Yesterday's run had a nice day on this southern section of the N-P Trail. This is an unsupported race from Piseco to Wakely Dam for 32.6 miles. It was a very muddy track after several days of heavy rain, but it didn't rain during the event. The morning started warm and humid, but the trail didn't seem too hot until some of the open sections near the end. More information on the race will be posted soon at
www.wakelydam.com.
RD Jim announced this is his last year organizing the event. It remains to be seen if another person will step up to the plate. It will be a challenge to put together such an able race crew such as the members and friends of the Houghtaling family. This year's shirt has the name of every Wakely runner over the last 10 years - about 250 people in all.
I ran a bit harder than anticipated (with little training) because my dog Meg (an Aussie-mix) decided to run with the front runners. I didn't want to get too far behind her. Eventually she dropped back and I found her waiting at a trail junction at mile 23. I had not seen her for 4-1/2 hours. After the race, about ten runners told me they had run with Meg for stretches of the course. This was Meg's 3rd Wakely. For a while I thought she was aiming for the doggie course record.
